Why tick control matters

Disease prevention

Ticks are major carriers of infections that can have long-term health effects. Some of the most important ones include:

  • Lyme Disease – the most common tick-borne illness in the U.S., which can cause fatigue, joint pain, and neurological issues if untreated
  • Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever – potentially severe and even life-threatening without prompt treatment
  • Anaplasmosis – causes fever, headaches, and muscle aches
  • Babesiosis – affects red blood cells and can be dangerous for older adults or immunocompromised people

Growing geographic risk

Tick populations are expanding due to climate and environmental changes, meaning areas that once had low risk are now seeing more cases.

Impact on pets

Ticks don’t just affect humans—they can transmit diseases to dogs, cats, and farm animals, leading to illness and costly veterinary care.

Hard to detect early

Tick bites are often painless and easy to miss. By the time symptoms appear, infection may already have spread.

Basic tick control strategies

  • Avoid tall grass and brush; stay on clear paths
  • Use insect repellents (like DEET or permethrin-treated clothing)
  • Check your body, clothing, and pets after being outdoors
  • Keep lawns trimmed and remove leaf litter
  • Shower soon after coming inside
